It's a Jaffa cake a cake or a biscuit?
It may not matter to some, but for others. As we know from the news of the day, cakes and cookies are free of VAT, but if the sponge is coated with chocolate is a luxury, according HMRC and subject to VAT. Thus if a Jaffa cake is actually a cookie, costing 17.5% more than it would if it were a cake. cakes and biscuits are cooked! And always with the cookies stored in the supermarket. Guess its classification as a cake, the name indicates its cake Jaffa Cake. You must respond to a kind of starndard to claim and who are not classified as a Biscuter. Other forms of advertising would be a mistake wiser and has serious problems. Or at least I assume. On a personal note I like cake class. I thought some kind of crisis Biscuter them. The texture of a Jaffa cake is to have a crispy soft interior. Googled the size Jaffa Cakes are circular, about 54 mm (2 ⅛ inches) in diameter and 7 mm (¼ inch) deep. These include three layers: a foam, a layer of frozen orange diameter narrower than the base (about 38 mm), and a layer of chocolate covering the jelly and the margin of the sponge. I think the foam layer is for me its a cake. and found that British law does not impose VAT on biscuits and cakes – which are "zero." Chocolate chip cookies, however, are subject to VAT at 17.5%. McVitie classified by its Jaffa Cakes as cakes, but in 1991 was challenged by HM Customs and taxes special and the case ended in court. [6] This may be because Jaffa Cakes are about the size and shape that some types of crackers. One issue that asked the court itself: "What criteria should be used to class something as a cake?" McVitie defended its classification of Jaffa Cakes as cakes. Doing so produced a giant Jaffa Cake to illustrate that its Jaffa Cakes were just mini cakes. McVitie said that the distinction between cakes and biscuits, among other alia, that biscuits would normally be expected to go soft when stale, whereas the plates are normally expected to go hard. It has been shown that the Tribunal that Jaffa Cakes become hard when stale. Other factors taken into account by the Chairman, Mr Potter QC, included: name, ingredients, texture, size, packaging, marketing, presentation, aimed at children, and the manufacturing process. Contrary to popular belief, whether something is considered a "luxury" is not a test for VAT. Mr. Potter stated that the Jaffa cake is a cake. It further held that, if relevant, is not a cookie. McVitie therefore won the case and the VAT is not paid on Jaffa Cakes interesting point Biscuter stale cake is soft and tasteless painful.
